I wore shoes with no socks today, so now I’ve got bandaids on my ankles.
But, I’m thinking about sandals…and loving these simple ones at Urban

and I’m trying to track down simple leather woven maryjanes…but new.
My friend Kristen got really cute platform sneakers from Chloe Sevigny at Opening Ceremony. I’m walking Booker to and fro the studio most days, which means I’ve been wearing either my Chukka boots or a pair of cutoff vintage boots I made….hit top platform sneakers would still be comfy but add a little insouciance to my walk:)

is really warm and beautiful. Almost sandal weather. Makes me want to take a sandal making class with Rachel of Sandalwitch. Or, just figure out which pair of her sandals I love the most!
I’ll be giving a talk about ethical and sustainable design at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert this Thursday. I’ll be talking about working close to home, making what I consider to be the “right” choices in producing clothing, and about where I think the industry is heading. Calleen Cordero will also be speaking, and I’m looking forward to her take on everything, especially as she produces everything in her own factory in North Hollywood.

those 1940s pictures of my grandmother made me start thinking about 1940s shoes…these are all swing dance shoes from Aris Allen at Dancestore.com….
…when I saw these at Manny’s today on the way back from my sewinghouse’s holiday party.
Our friend Shin recommended Manny’s to me (and all of LA here) but this was the first time I had been in.
