My first inkling of the power of a model was inspired by Kristen McMenamy’s Vogue cover from April of 1995.
I remember thinking, “she’s not very pretty, why is she on the cover of Vogue?” But I thought about that picture a lot. Within a week it was on my wall…and I thought she was the most interesting model out there. When I went to Europe with my family that summer I bought a pink strappy dress because it had the ‘same’ butterfly print: so she sold me my first knock off as well.
She’s continued to interest me, and I love so many of her shoots.
Lovely lady Laurel’s literal line Welcome Companions is mentioned in Elle’s accessory round up. If you haven’t seen it yet: she does a whimsical extrapolation on a part time picnic that you could wear year round: seen through larger-than life accessories: super fun and funny: but the quality means your toast purse will become a mainstay.
The Cut’s redesign and it’s Style Tribes series. It’s beautifully shot, and, so far, pretty far reaching in terms of it’s glance. See the Brighton Beach one here, and unfortunately their categories seem to be a bit disorganized, so you have to dig around for the other (3 so far) style tribe volumes.
so gorgeous…makes me wish I had a yard instead of land. or unblack thumbs, at least. and I wish I’d gotten a subscription to Wilder for my mom’s birthday, which is today!
Check out this behind the scenes look of Fall Fashion Week in Being Bazaar, a short film from Australian Bazaar. Enjoy the awesome soundtrack by my brother, Eugene.
