do i look awesome or would you make fun of me on the street PART 3: hair apparent.

ah yes: another “do i look awesome or would you make fun of me on the street.”

last night i was out with my friend C, who has long, dark curly hair extensions. and she wants to go red. I asked, why not a try a wig first?

women used to wear wigs as like, a thing, as recently as the 60s. My aunt met her husband while wearing a wig for an interview. On their first date she had completely different hair. he still liked her: it worked out.

so, this morning, i dug out my wigs: and decided on the black one.

i have a bunch of errands today, a lunch date and a coffee meeting, to which i will be wearing a wig.

keep in mind, this is not a fancy wig: so…

It always funny to me when a body part is in…

stomach baring tees in the 90s, i guess legs recently with all the skinny jeans and the leggings…

its even funnier to me when grooming habits change, as a trend…like recently, when tons of models and photoshoots have real agressive or assertive, drawn on and emphasized eyebrows:

on the runway, dkny, valentino, and sorry, i dont know the last one… (anyone?)

and of course, the gliteratti:

So, in our most recent installment of do i look awesome or would you make fun of me on the street…i drew sharp, slightly darker eyebrows on:

the general consensus was: “oh something is different about you but i didn’t know what”

a couple friends said they would make fun of me. E, who says it takes a lot for her to make fun of someone on the street said that it was, (to paraphrase) a little jolie-laide (which i think is ALWAYS a good thing). A said she would mock me, and X said to change the color.

boys mostly didn’t notice, or if i told them, were a little confused.

full disclosure: what you see above is brown eyeliner drawn in…a little darker than my natural brow. I originally tried black, and then caught sight of myself, jumped back in fright and had to wipe it off and start over again. But, i dont think i would go much lighter…i like the starkness.

while i don’t know if i can really make this a thing: i liked how intense and slightly-off i looked.

what do you think: do i look awesome or would you make fun of me on the street? and: is this something you think we’ll see more of and would you try it yourself?

LA has no real area to check yourself, fashion wise.

you wear what you wear in your house, and then your car, and then your bar or event or restaurant, where you are surrounded by your friends who, if they are my friends: support your outfits. Recently, a friend X said, “oh look at you, you are wearing a costume,” but it was okay because i kinda was (70s parisian with orange lips).

my friend P says this doesn’t allow for some kid to make fun of you on the street, as might happen in ny if you are taking yourself way too seriously, so people run unchecked.

while this is true, it also doesn’t allow you to be inspired by everyone around you and to push the envelope yourself. and: i don’t think the unchecked people in LA are really doing things right. once isaac and i saw a woman wearing, i kid you not, what looked like a towel wrapped around her head as a headband. or it was a giant tampon. we tried to get closer to see what it was, but, alas, we were all in cars so it didn’t work out.

my biggest problem with LA fashion is that people don’t take risks.

maybe its hard to take a risk if you know there is the possibility that no one will see you. i do know that working from home makes most people switch into mumuus. possibly cute and stylish mumuus: but i don’t really accessorize unless i am leaving the house.

today i had a lunch meeting so i simply added to my mumuu: cut off leggings, a vest, a sweater cardigan of isaacs, a bunch of necklaces, riding boots…..and some belts around my head.

yes: belts around my head.

see: that’s me looking pensive with belts around my head.

i’m going to start to take (possibly ill-advised) fashion risks in LA.

i’ll probably take pictures and post them here just to justify the experiment.

so, what do you think….
