When Heather and I spent the better part of our saturday at the Santa Monica vintage expo I had no idea I would find the boots I have always wanted: traditionally indian embroidered handmade boots (i have a soft spot for most handmade embroidered boots: i have a pair of nepali ones).

Once I got them home I was reminded that they looked like a pair of Isabel Marant boots I saw about four years ago. Ironically enough, the only picture online I could find that was from my friend amy’s blog (www.seamsters.net).

Last week I went to the LA textile show. I was really excited to see the new organic fabrics and fabric vendors that had been so heavily promoted in all the show’s marketing materials.

While some of the vendors had some organic fabrics: only one (by my count) was primarily organic, and many more, including one that took out a full page ad extolling how eco they were, had only a small percentage of eco-fabrics.

I totally understand that companies, especially large ones, sometimes need to transition fabrics or materials. But at the same time its the companies with the money and the connections and the overseas factories that can start making a big statement by making a quicker and firmer transistion.

The textile show reeked of trying to play catch up with too little too late.

i’ve been trying to get my head around dressing for Fall in LA. i finally decided my look will be fall colors, layers and a bit of boheme. basically, a cross between an ex of bob dylans and a crazy 70s high school art teacher. The new coach ads go quite well here (once you draw in the ray bans).

More than you ever wanted to know about shoelaces

I was looking around for shoe repair/cobbler terminology today and came across this:
shoe lace

Proper lace tying techniques, wild and wacky ways to lace shoes, managing crooked and slipping knots, FAQs, polls, related links, and much, much, (surprisingly) much more…

Push Pins are my favorite

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Exactly a year ago I was in NY on a very very windy day and wearing this dress. As the wind blew, the front slit of my dress would open, showing the world my hanky panky’s. Luckily my best friend was there to save me, went to her office, and came down with a push pin that her co-worked gave her. I fashionally pined up my slit and from that moment on I have been collecting push pins.

edoc.jpgso, this new line, edoc laundry suposedly has clothing that tells secrets. Meaning, hidden barcodes and number codes that lead you to solve an online murder mystery. the dork in me says: AWESOME. the designer in me says: GIMMICK, but the realist in me says this might be the new crossover marketing strategy (intergrating clothing and online actions: leading the way to way to me pointing my phone at someone to be able to buy their shirt online, or c’mon, lets be honest, someone doing that to me :) ) now, if edoc laundry could just make their graphics a little fashion forward, I might have to get a little sydney bristo on that.

Marc Jacob’s Backward Heel

I guess I missed this from the Marc Jacobs show, but these shoes are pretty interesting. They’re almost obscene, as though something is sprouting out of her foot. Are they wearable?
