my favorite ring
Thursday, January 31st, 2008I saw this ring by Driftwood originally in Tokyo, then in Opening Ceremony in NY and then I bought it finally at a GenArt event. I’ve worn it for about two years: and recently, it split a bit in the back (i attribute this to hard-wearing, not poor craft)…so I’m in the market for a new one. Luckily, they are currently on sale here in LA at Creatures of Comfort…
lucky me! Lucky Dragons!
Tuesday, January 29th, 2008This sunday we went to the closing party of ArtLA and saw a lovely Lucky Dragons action….Luke and Sara are awesome and their performance was positive and powerful. For those of you who haven’t seen them, basically they set up a system that senses changes in temperature caused by participants’ touch. the resulting sounds are communal and absolutely unique and different each time. Adding to the mix is a video that works along with the sound. Basically its awesome, really special and creates a specific time and place for the participants and viewers. Awesomely, they are performing at the Whitney Biennial this year: check here to see where/when they are coming to you, and click here to see Luke explain everything more eloquently than I did.
Welcome, nordic hunters
Monday, January 28th, 2008This weekend I was in LA’s chinatown, and I finally got to stop in the store Welcome Hunters.
I came across the beautiful and delicate and fragile looking pieces by Iben Hoj (although i guess they aren’t as fragile as it seems…some parts are reinforced with metal thread…)…the picture above is from the iben hoj website.

Friday, January 25th, 2008this below plus this songĀ
we all have wants, don’t we?
Friday, January 25th, 2008so i have been using stylehive for about a year now and love the satisfaction. you want it, and you bookmark it, and it is almost like yours, it is yours, but you don’t really own the actual item, you just own it by wanting it and claiming that you want it, so it’s yours, a sort of neo-ownership, riiiight?
but man, i wish the site looked better. wtf, really, it is honestly one of the ugliest social networks out there. even delicious or craigslist, myspace is even nicer looking, at least my page is nice.
so, will someone go to Holland and buy these for me? they don’t sell online to US. BOOOOOO!
gallery pauline extravanga
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008Last night we went to gallery pauline, hosted and curated by the always charming Matteo.
I have to give a bit of a backhanded compliment (but the backhand is mostly to LA), this was one of the best shows I’ve been to since I moved here.
Some of my favorites are pictured, please note however, I don’t know a couple of whodidwhats…and will ask matteo to clarify.
the pics are: matteo’s gallery pauline scene, one of isaac’s hoods (which i think are great and not just because he’s such a good kisser), and….random blue dot on matteo’s ceiling.
I like it.
also awesome was juliana romero’s slightly….(the best word i can think of is..) “off” portrait. She’s a very accomplished painter and i was excited to see a palatable doom or gloom applied to one of her portraits…i’m excited to see what comes next…
and the last pic is my paparazzi pic of matteo.
