I came across these ladies in the latest Nylon…when I checked out their stuff on myspace I was really impressed with their quality, their look and the ideas behind it…beautiful haunting and eerie.

this might be a bit grosser than the usual post

Monday, March 31st, 2008

i just think these ads looks like a pre-teen murder victim dumped in the grass, a la black dahlia or that film “the dead girl.” I dont think its edgy, cool, sexy, innocent or alluring. I think its a bit misogynistic and I’m anti. not okay.
sorry for the downer.

Demakersvan, the Dutch Design house responsible for this beautiful lace fence, has now put the fence into production. I never thought I would want chain link anywhere near my dream house…but maybe I can reconsider.

the root of all color

We had a kinda hippie weekend I guess, with isaac in the garden and me in the kitchen experimenting with vegetable dye. Popomomo used veggie dyes for spring, but I’ve been trying to get my head around the history of dye and different ways to dye clothing. I’m also gearing up for a trunk show at sodafine in new york next month and I wanted to make some vegetable dyed scarves and maybe some other stuff if I have time. I also hate the “color” white. Nothing stays white on me and i’m not into it.

I tried very basic veggie dyes today, beets and red cabbage. I also bought saffron, tumeric, and want to try artichoke and some other types of veggie dye this week.
The beets really were intense: the first batch was a papaya color and slowly it got more orange. The cabbage was a soft, cold purple.

If you are going to try diy dyeing…add vinegar to your veggie dye solution and salt to any berry solutions (raspberries, blueberries, etc)

I tasted some of the cabbage and beets after the dyeing procees to see it could make borscht in a waste not-want not situation: but they tasted like tshirts and quite honestly i threw them away. All the nutrients were gone anyway:)

At the garden store today I came across Terracycle: a company that recycles used containers to ship its organic garden supplements (the supplements are super into worm poop), so they come in used milk jugs and soda bottles. Pretty cool. You can find out more at http://www.terracycle.net/

Isaac’s doing an organic garden again this year which is exciting and not much harder than a regular garden. he’s doing weird shaped beds which are pretty cool too. If anyone has an LA gardening advice we would love to hear it:)

Skull phone…digitally

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

So, that skull with cellphone I see everywhere (a while ago over the toms burger’s sign at silverlake blvd and sunset, and also on the 2222 olympic blvd studios) has gone digital.

The clear channel owned billboard at 9th and La Brea had the below image appear in between Ads.

Is it a hack? Is it sanctioned? Is the skull phone artist a woman and is this part of the women artist project with lacma?
