run run run run

Friday, January 30th, 2009

so, i’ve been running lately. on the east coast i got plenty of exercise by walking to the train or riding my bike places: but here you pretty much have to make an effort or you feel like the people in wall-e. On the plus side, you can run outside year round and i live in between pretty lakes (reservoirs).

The search for sneakers was pretty long…i bought the ones i bought primarily on their lack of offensiveness…I’m not going to say who they are by, because i own them primarily for what they are not.

However, while i was looking for running shoes: there were a dearth of options: everything for the ladies looks like its inflated and really, really white. On the plus side, once you put on giant, puffy white shoes: your legs look skinnier by comparison so it pretty much does the trick without even having to go running.

if i were to care who saw me while they pass me while running: i would wear some of these…or ideally the jeremy scott’s in an earlier post…

these fila shoes remind me of micheal j fox’s outfit in back to the future II (seen on nitrolicious)

i like these colorful nikes here:

and i love these weird nikes:

and these reebok ventilators:

i found this 2007 color way

which reminded me of these balenciaga’s:

which would be like a death wish to run in.

So, Michael Kors is getting sued by the Tony Duquette foundation…

Hutton Wilkinson, keeper of the legacy of the late Los Angeles tastemaker and  interior, home furnishings and jewelry designer Tony Duquette, filed suit yesterday in U.S. District Court against Michael Kors. He’s alleging that the New York designer and “Project Runway” judge used the Duquette name to market his resort collection of tie-dye caftans, tunics and sweaters in stores now.

The lawsuit claims Kors knowingly and willfully used the Duquette mark in conjunction with clothing without permission or license, and used photos, images and patterns from the Abrams book “Tony Duquette” in advertising and promoting the resort collection. Unspecified damages are sought.

i guess i’m lucky i was just inspired (and didn’t pull directly) by Tony Duquette and the recent Tony Duquette book, as well…..and that i’m a couple seasons ahead of michael kors…but we knew that already:)

so: i am currently on the apartment hunt.

We live in an awesome place right now: but for various reasons (need more works space) we are going to move.

I’ve looked at places with potential, places for homicidial maniacs, places for very small homicidial maniacs and places without bathrooms or kitchens and at some liveable places too.

Nothing is right.

Currently I’m searching by myself: Isaac will help me next week, but he’s getting ready for open studios. But it will be good to have him keep me in check. sometimes I see spaces and I’m like, oh yes: this will totally work: and then realize there are no windows but i’m imagining putting in skylights (but its on the first floor). and other times, i’m just a brat and am like NO (like yesterday this guy asked it i wanted an application and i said no way, and told him the apartment was pet-sized).

and we are looking for either: a well organized one bedroom that will be accompanied by a large, unfinished studio. or a giant live/work space.

so, of course when faced with reality, many people turn to fantasy. Right now i’m thinking about packing all. of. our books.

so here’s some fantasy book scenarios as opposed to heavy ones I’ll be dealing with soon:

love this bookshelf/staircase to a loft:

done by levitate architects  and found via

in our next place: i want to organize the books by color. currently they are organized by theme: art/social theory/fiction..but it doesn’t look like this:

of course it you aren’t renting you can build-in a bookshelf:

and this is kinda wonderful and kinda awful:

when you think rick owens….do you think backpack?

swagger-eastpack-backpack.jpg

rick owens is going to do a collaboration with eastpack (home of backpacks for rollerbladers..at least that’s who carried eastpacks in milwaukee circa 1986).

however, in my google searching to do more research…i found these raf simons collabs with eastpack…which i like.

rtemagicc_eastpack_rafsimons.jpg

the only thing is: are these for kids? or are they for some club kids collection of pacifiers?

i have always been looking for a good backpack for bike riding: but otherwise i can’t get my head around it…are backpacks acceptable?

love it

i love robert downey junior: he’s  (as my crazy cousin would say) a ‘real live wire.’

2robert-downey-jr.jpg

he’s so focused and on in everything he’s in: and takes roles that either push the envelope (tropic thunder) or he breaks out of the genre (srsly: iron man, at the end…that last scene: i almost cheered. not really, but it was good).

and, the guy has had some serious drama in his life, which is why i get a kick out of him being a little F*$%&$ it at the golden globes, and for saying stuff like this, when asked if he googles himself:

Says Downey, “Oh, I love all that shit, personally. Sorry. I love just it. Because it’s a hoot. Some people overstate their support, like they know you. Other people are busy doing something else and just want to go on this chat site and say some despicable character assassination, which I honestly think they kind of nailed it. I do have that shortcoming. It’s really fun.”

love it: via perez.

and if that wasn’t enough
