philly is funny.
there is a piazza in northern liberties which has apartments and shops and where there were murders the first week it opened: which is pretty classic philly. But also classic philly: there’s a bunch of actually cool lines and stores in the shop part of this strangeness.
I stopped by to check it out and was happy to run into my friend Jamie Dillon.
He and Nick Paparone are the minds behind Print Liberation, and did the moveon.org obama tees and several others you’ve probably seen a millon times. They have a store in the piazza filled with tees and items by them and friends.
I loved this tee by Lizzy Jansen:

also i saw this Mike Kelly toy that prominently features our friend Ahrum modeling.
\
which was a shock:)
as a Rimmel ten girl, I was asked to say what my top ten trends of the next year will be.

in no particular order, I’m feeling:

military jackets and inspired detailing. seen on the runway (a glam version at balmain and a folk version at marc jacobs last week), and in mass market stores like the GAP, a great investment piece would be an army jacket in classic green. Bring a little fun to a blazer or bag with some vintage military medals.

i’m head over heels for wearable, lighter weight capes, which is why i did a wool/tencel one for popomomo’s fall line.

ditch your purse and your clutch and go for fully functional with a backpack. this one from givenchy is crazy pricey, but i have a vintage leather one found a thriftstore, or head to the army surplus to mix two trends.

and what goes with a backpack? a smoky eye! just kidding: a smoky eye actually goes with everything:)

i’m expecting to see functional, vintage and men’s inspired footwear this year: from clog boots to justins to high heeled lace ups.

embrace your inner bandit with a small, tied neckercheif in place of an oversized scarf or necklace.

i’ve been loving orange lips since last summer but i feel this look has moved into a new basic stage and I still feel good about it!

american sportwear, a pretty, classic and fun take on prep is back: from liz claiborne’s resurgence to the edgier runways turning to classics. Expect to possibly find yourself wanting something from the gap this year.

stop plucking. you know who you are. quit it.

try a hat! try bright tights! have fun with fashion and be yourself. When the economy slows down, so do the movement of trends: so make your own and experiment with personal style this year.
amy and leo took me to see leslie and the lys last night in philly….

They’ll be playing March 4th in LA at the Echo.

i love the mixing…
she also forwarded info on the gray area symposium….which sounds awesome….
Gray Area proposes a series of encounters that promote intercultural dialogue within the field of contemporary jewellery and, on its first edition, this dialogue is focused in two continents: Latin America and Europe.
From April 12th to 16th 2010, the symposium Gray Area will take place in Mexico City’s Historic Center. The symposium will be complemented by a series of parallel exhibitions and events
So: I just wanted to point out Rachel Antonoff has a very cute invitation for Fashion Week.

And, Nancy Drew is QUITE the muse.
But, any good detective knows, Popomomo had Nancy Drew as our inspiration last fall…the mystery has been solved…

popomomo’s sleuthing shirt dress

popomomo’s river heights tunic…

and our bess tunic (nancy’s sweet gal pal)

I also bought a screenprinting machine, so in the past weekend we printed….

and also scarves for the runway gift bags (which i have since hand dyed)….
